Employer of Record (EOR) in Denmark

Hire and onboard talent in Denmark without setting up a Danish entity. Nordic Relocators acts as the legal employer: you manage the work, we manage the contract, payroll, tax and compliance.

What is an Employer of Record?

An Employer of Record (EOR) is a third party that legally employs workers on your behalf. The EOR signs the Danish employment contract, runs payroll, files taxes with Skattestyrelsen, manages benefits, and ensures full compliance with Danish labour law, while your company directs day-to-day work.

For foreign companies entering Denmark, the EOR model removes the cost, time and legal complexity of incorporating a Danish CVR-registered entity. You can hire one engineer, three sales reps, or an entire local team, and start within weeks instead of months.

Typical onboarding: 5–10 working days from signed service agreement to the employee receiving a compliant Danish contract and payroll setup.

When EOR is the right move

EOR fits a specific set of business situations.

  • Testing the Danish market: Hire one or two people before committing to a full subsidiary.
  • Speed-to-hire matters: Onboard talent in weeks instead of waiting on entity setup.
  • Single-employee presence: A subsidiary is overkill for one or two roles.
  • Project-based engagements: Time-boxed work with a clear end date.
  • Sponsoring non-EU talent: EOR can sponsor work permits for non-EU/EEA hires.
  • Acquisition transitions: Bridge employment continuity during M&A or carve-outs.

FAQs: Employer of Record

Who is the legal employer under EOR?

Nordic Relocators is the legal employer for tax, payroll and labour-law purposes. You retain full operational control over the employee's work and direction.

Can EOR sponsor a Danish work permit?

Yes. Because the EOR is the registered Danish employer, it can sponsor SIRI work-permit applications for non-EU/EEA hires under the Pay Limit, Positive List or Fast-Track schemes.

How is EOR different from a contractor or freelancer?

EOR creates a real employment relationship with full statutory protections (notice periods, holiday pay, pension, sick pay). A contractor relationship lacks these and carries misclassification risk in Denmark.

What about collective agreements (overenskomst)?

If your industry is covered by a collective agreement, we apply its terms: minimum wage, working time, overtime rules and contributions to a fagforening if required.

How quickly can someone start?

EU/EEA citizens can typically start within 1–2 weeks of signing. Non-EU hires depend on SIRI processing, generally 10 days to 3 months depending on the scheme.

When should I switch from EOR to my own Danish entity?

Most clients move to a subsidiary once they reach 5–10 Danish employees, or when commercial/tax considerations make local incorporation more efficient. We help with the transition.

Is the employee's data GDPR-protected?

Yes. Employment records, payslips and personal data are stored in a GDPR-compliant Danish portal with role-based access and a full audit trail.
